Millage Approval~

The Grand Traverse County Road Commission is thrilled and thankful that on November 5, 2013 voters approved a 3 year, 1 mill addition to their property taxes for improving and repairing our roads.

Going forward, we dedicated putting residents' hard-earned tax dollars to work fixing your roads and, in turn, making Grand Traverse County a more beautiful place to live.

We appreciate the trust and confidence that the voting public has placed in our ability to repair and improve our county road system with the millage funds.

About Us:

The Grand Traverse County Road Commission has been in existence for more than 100 years. Road Commission employees worked together to evaluate and chart the future course of our agency in the mid-1990s. During that process, the mission statement was collaboratively prepared by members of our Teamsters Local 214, administrative employees and Board members.

Our mission is to upgrade and maintain a safe and efficient road system.

Road Funding

Gas Tax
Road improvements are funded by a user fee, commonly called gas tax. It is truly a user fee as those who use the system pay according to their usage. As you fuel your vehicle, you are paying 19 cents/gallon towards maintaining every public road in Michigan. That include:

Dust control
Gravel road blading
Pothole patching
Reconstruction
Road signs
Shoulder maintenance
Snow removal
Traffic signals

Motorists in Michigan may consider themselves fortunate. There has been only 1 increase in those cents/gallon since 1984. They have saved money at the pump, but at what cost?
